PROFESSIONAL (TRUCK) DRIVER TRAINING PROGRAM - PILOT PROJECT
The BC Professional (Truck) Driver Training Program is the result of an industry-led initiative to establish a training standard for professional truck drivers in this province. The program combines research on driver training programs, standards and best practices across Canada with input from trucking industry experts to create a standard that meets the needs of the truck transportation industry in BC. The program also provides potential driver trainees with a reliable and respected training alternative as a base for their careers.

WORK ON $1M TRADES EXPANSION AT OKANAGAN COLLEGE UNDERWAY
SALMON ARM – Colin Mayes, MP for Okanagan-Shuswap, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, and George Abbott, Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation and MLA for Shuswap joined Okanagan College representatives for the official groundbreaking of the $1-million expansion of the college’s trades training facility in Salmon Arm.

FIRST PEOPLES HOUSE OFFICIALLY OPENS AT UVIC
VICTORIA – Ida Chong, MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head and Minister of Healthy Living and Sport and Murray Coell, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands and Minister of Labour joined the Hon. Steven L. Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Mrs. Gwen Point and University of Victoria representatives to officially open the First Peoples House on the UVic campus.

ABORIGINAL CENTRE OPENS AT UBC OKANAGAN
KELOWNA – Norm Letnick, MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country joined Steve Thomson, Minister of Agriculture and Lands and MLA for Kelowna-Mission, along with representatives of the University of British Columbia Okanagan to celebrate the official opening of the new Aboriginal Student Centre.

SUCCESSFUL ESL TRAINING EXPANDED
VICTORIA – More immigrants and refugees in communities across British Columbia will have access to free English language training programs with this year’s $2-million investment in the English as a Second Language Settlement Assistance Program, announced Moira Stilwell, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.
