Certified tradespersons are in great demand in British Columbia. Holding a certificate in a trade in BC significantly increases your earning power in some trades to more than $40,000.00 a year.
You may have worked in a trade for a long time and have the required knowledge, hours and experience, but you are not certified; or you may have newly immigrated to Canada with a foreign credential. In both cases, you may challenge the certification by writing the trade-specific BC Certificate of Qualification or the Inter-Provincial (IP) exam. In order to help many immigrants integrate successfully into BC’s workforce, the province provides support such as paid tuition, paid textbooks, tools and work boots, and English language courses to overcome barriers to employment.
