Learning Investment
It pays to invest in apprenticeship training. Canada’s workforce is aging and it is estimated that 48% of workers are eligible to retire within the next 5 to 10 years. Data gathered by the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum from over 1,000 employers across Canada reveals a very strong business case for apprenticeship. For every $1 invested in training, employers receive a benefit, on average, of $1.47. For example, analysis over the four -year apprenticeship of the Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic trade indicated a net benefit of $245,264.
Without qualified employees there would be no business. Industry requires qualified and skilled workers to get the job done well. This is why the commitment of today’s employers to sponsor apprentices plays a vital role. It is a smart and profitable investment to ensure sustainable business growth, to provide competitive advantage in future markets and to ensure the continued availability of a skilled workforce in BC.
Apprentices must be employed to get the hands-on training they need to earn their certification. Hiring apprentices makes good business sense and helps you pass on your skills, knowledge and experience. Once apprentices are certified they become the mainstay of a business as skilled journeypersons and this helps your business stay on the leading edge.
